The next MFF: Rethinking EU funding for a healthy ocean future

Tuesday 14th October, 5pM - 6.15pm
European Parliament, Spinelli 5G1, Brussels

As the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union enter budget negotiations for the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) Commission proposal - and in light of growing concern over the effects of overfishing, habitat destruction, pollution and climate change - reconsidering how EU funds are allocated in the ocean sector has never been more urgent.

Our panel discussion will explore how future EU funding schemes can be reoriented to support a healthy ocean and a well-being blue economy -creating jobs, strengthening coastal communities, and protecting marine ecosystems. Rethinking public subsidies is critical to ensuring that public funds drive positive change in alignment with the EU’s objectives instead of perpetuating harmful and outdated practices.
