The cigarette surfboard. The documentary, directed by Ben Judkins, follows passionate surfer Taylor Lane as he builds a fully functional surfboard from 10,000 cigarette butts collected from Californian beaches. The “Cigarette Surfboard” thus becomes a platform for learning from professional surfers who are committed to protecting the oceans – and a symbol of a global grassroots movement seeking to hold the tobacco industry to account for its toxic plastic waste.

Shape the future. – A film by Lorenz Nägele featuring Martin Scharffenberg (in English with German subtitles). Lorenz Nägele’s multi-award-winning short documentary takes us right on our doorstep to Martin Scharffenberg’s workshop in Kiel. As a qualified oceanographer and climate researcher, he has first-hand knowledge of the pressures facing the world’s ocean. His response to this is work of absolute precision using sustainable materials: Scharffenberg SURFBOARDS produces professional, sustainable and extremely durable high-performance surfboards made of wood. The film showcases the symbiosis of scientific knowledge, uncompromising craftsmanship and a deep sense of responsibility towards nature.
