Debunking Myths and Developing EU Policy Solutions to End the Faroese Dolphin Hunt
Thursday 16th October 2.00pm - Webinar
This webinar will critically examine common justifications for the Grindadráp in the Faroe Islands, assessing the evidence to address claims regarding the sustainability of the hunt, the safety of consuming whale meat, and the humaneness of the killing methods. The webinar will systematically deconstruct these arguments by drawing from evidence on species population impacts, documented health risks from mercury and pollutant contamination, and the prolonged suffering of pilot whales and white-sided dolphins during the killing at these hunts. We will explore actionable EU policy solutions, taking inspiration from global examples of marine species protection, including trade agreement conditions, import labelling requirements, and support for community-led initiatives and pathways. The webinar aims to bring together Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), representatives of the European Commission on Oceans and Fisheries, Blue NGOs, other NGOs, and interested members of the public. It aims to provide policymakers and advocates with concrete tools and evidence-based arguments for constructive engagement against the Grindadráp
